If you are like millions of animal owner’s nation wide your pet is an important member of your family. For some that family member is more than just a beloved pet, it’s also a service animal.
The services that Therapy Animals Assisting People (TAAP) provides to their human counter parts is just as important as the services offered by other types of service animals.
Though this type of service animal hasn’t been around as long as other service animals they are slowing coming into the recognition they deserve for the important job that they do for their owners with emotional disabilities.
The animals in this program are trained and registered to provide their human parent with emotional support and recovery by offering a calming effect and distraction from the current crisis they are experiencing.
These animals are just as important as other types of service animals and they provide a much needed service to people with emotional disabilities
Our Mission
To assist in the safe and effective emotional recovery and on-going support of people who have emotional disabilities by providing them with trained therapy animals to assist them during times of crisis.
Our Goal
Therapy Animals Assisting People are trained and registered with our organization to provide their parent with emotional support and recovery by offering a calming effect during times of high stress and/or crisis.
Faqs
Not all animals are provided by us.Animals that are provided through us are rescued from shelters.
Some animals already belong to the person requesting our services. In this instance the animal, its behavior and temperament are looked at and reviewed by the organization to determine if the animal can be accepted into our program.
Not all animals meet the guidelines of our program and cannot be accepted as a therapy animal.Though an animal may not be accepted into our program that doesn’t mean the owner will be denied assistance or service from us.
Just as our animals are screened so are our potential families. No animal is placed in a home where there is a high risk of potential injury to our service animal. Some families may be turned away if the “threat” to an animal’s safety is in question.
All animals in our program are required to be kept current on all their vaccinations and must be spayed and/or neutered when age appropriate. These things are at the pet parent’s expense.
Currently the animals in our program are cats and dogs.I hope to be able to expand the list to include other types of animals in the future.
Animals are placed with their pet parent as soon as possible and training for both the animal and pet parent continues until both have completed and passed a pet partner evaluation test.
Once an animal is accepted into our program we continue to monitor the animal after it is placed with its family. We will proved all of our animals with any and all care they may need, should their pet parent become unable too.
To those unfamiliar with our program and its services our animals appear to be just another pet.We invite you to ask any of our pet parents how their animal assists them. They are the ones who gain the most benefit from our service animals.
